The pitaya or pitahaya (from the Indian taino, meaning scaly fruit), is more commonly known as the dragon fruit. It is widely used for medicinal purposes in Central America and has remarkable digestive qualities.
The pitaya or pitahaya is a high-fiber fruit, rich in minerals such as iron, phosphorous and calcium. It also has a high vitamin content.

There are several hundred varieties of pitaya or pitayaha varying from red to yellow in color.
