The fig’s characteristics

The fig, from the Latin ficus carica, is the fruit of the common fig tree, part of the Moraceae family. It is the emblem of the Mediterranean Basin where it has been cultivated over several millennia.

Black, green or purple, figs contain a surprising variety of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

Varieties

There are several varieties of fig including:

Blackbursa, Evita, Parsian, King, Pangier, Ronde du Bordeaux or Southern Black.
